Our oceans and seas host amazing creatures as well as sustain the livelihoods of more than a billion people. Covering two-thirds of Earth’s surface, they display an incredible diversity of species, from the smallest to the biggest organisms that have ever lived.
In recent decades, as a result of fast human demographic growth, the richness of this marine ecosystems is globally declining at alarming rates. Global warming, ocean acidification, plastic pollution and more… many threats that have already resulted in entire ecosystems collapsing. And it seems the worst is yet to come…
Our main goal in WeSea is to raise awareness about the underwater world, the threats it is facing and the solutions to prevent any further degradation. Knowledge is the key! Once given the right information, the large public will understand what it at stake if we keep on misbehaving with the environment. Building educational program, making scientific knowledge of the oceans and seas available and understandable to the large public, training our community to spread these precious information, these are the values of WeSea.
One can not stand alone in this journey. In WeSea, we are bringing people together, from local communities to businesses and decision-makers; only together we can make a change.
“The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat.” Jacques Yves Cousteau.
Active mostly in the Red Sea, our work consists in promoting regional collaboration between all the neighbors surrounding this special and unique ecosystem in order to protect it. We want to live in a world at peace, respectful of the environment, acting hand in hand to protect the marine world. All together we can truly change the fate of our oceans and seas.
